With signs of moisture issues common to insulation over an aged cap sheet roof, a 25 story multi-family high rise in Honolulu, Hawaii required immediate attention. As a certified thermographer, APOC representative Jim Eurton completed an infrared thermography inspection revealing moisture around parapet walls, walk pads, exhaust vents and pipe vents, as well as near a stairwell and under mechanical equipment. “It is important to remove and eradicate moisture, especially wet insulation as it has nowhere to go besides down through the deck. The result is a serious mold risk,” said Jim Eurton.

Upon completion of core sample testing, Jim provided options for roof restoration. In partnership with APOC, The roofing contractor was able to deliver roof restoration for a fraction of the cost of a roof replacement.

The infrared readings detected moisture from the wall at the stairwell building proving this area appeared to have ponding water issues.

The APOC System selected for this restoration, APOC Guide Specification AM-BU-585, delivered a durable waterproof membrane over the existing roof surface which had retained structural integrity but had become weathered and deteriorated.

Wet insulation and decking were removed and new materials were installed, allowing for the contractor to complete the roof restoration. Materials included in the APOC System included:
